An unexpected perk of the otherwise solitary endeavor of writing is being asked to visit with book groups. I am humbled by the generosity that people show, inviting me into their homes, plying me with baked goods, and then asking questions about my work that I’d never previously considered.
Some of these encounters have led to lasting friendships: I wound up becoming a member of a group that invited me to visit when my first novel, KARLMARX.COM, was published. And I met Julie Burnette, who designed this web site, when she tracked me down and asked me to speak to her group about ROCKVILLE PIKE, which was set in the neighborhood where
she lives. Julie had so
much trouble finding me that she convinced me I
needed a
web site, so that resulted in a nice synergy.
